The second day of the trip began with a tour of the Akosombo dam in the morning. There was a brief education on the history of the dam, funding and its construction. After a brief tour of the dam that lasted for less than an hour, we left to the Volta River Authority’s (VRA) department of Environment and Sustainable Development for a lecture on the environmental protection practices in place.
The final lecture in Akosombo was with Mr. Richard Koranteng, the Executive Director of Volta Basin Development Foundation (VBDF). VBDF is a Non-Governmental Organisation working with the issues relating to the volta basin. As usual, this was also a very interactive lecture with many questions and comments from the students.
At the end of it all, we left Akosombo with so much information on the dam, the environment, the people and how they affect one another.
