I am so excited to start my new life in Buenos Aires! Everything is different here. It feels like a different planet! The people here are very laidback and they are not in touch with time at all! If you are ten or twenty minutes late…it doesn’t matter. It’s considered perfectly normal. The food is lovely, the people are friendly and the sun is burning! Welcome to Argentina!

The first month here I am doing the pre-course in Spanish. This is a course for beginners or for those who wish to freshen up their Spanish skills. We are actually divided into two different groups depending on previous experience. The teacher, Paula, is so very lovely. She’s clever and very helpful. We learn a lot every day, so I would definitely consider it a pretty intense course. On the bright side of it, I’m sure our Spanish skills will be absolutely on point at the end of the semester.

Everyone says they speak English in Argentina, but truth is that most people don’t. When you arrive you will soon realise that the only way here, is Spanish. This can be quite challenging if you don’t know the language, and you soon understand you have to start using your Spanish skills right away – even if it’s just a few words or phrases. In the beginning you start to ask for directions and make your order at Panadería (bakery), and from there it just increases as you pick up words and learn lots of Spanish at the university. As Paula so cleverly said today:

“LA PRÁCTICA HACE AL MAESTRO”
(Practice makes the master)
