I am Mahira, a 20 years old girl from Norway. After studying Development studies in Vietnam, the urge to travel and experience new cultures increased. Development studies let you see the world with different perspectives. The study gives you a best of both worlds and has a way of letting you experience the diversity of lifestyles in this world in a much realistic way. You get to experience history, new culture, poverty, growth, and development right before your eyes. You get a sense of importance of your life and what this world has to offer. I chose Development studies out of curiously, and it might have been the best choice I have made so far. After Vietnam, I decided to challenge myself and study Development studies in Nicaragua. This country has a history of conquest, barbarism and colonialism. A lot of blood has been shed and misery has been a daily struggle. Not only do you learn about development in Latin America, and particularly Nicaragua, but it also shows how Europe and the rest of the world has played and important role; the kick-off of globalization. To study abroad, to live in a country that is so different from what we are used to, it opens our eyes and our mind to a much broader and healthy thinking. It’s like magic!
