Hello again!

Trying to think back to some questions I had before I came to study with Kulturstudier in Nepal, I remembered I was especially curious about the accommodation and school situation. So here is a blog post dedicated to just that.

First, let’s talk about Kulturstudier’s accommodation. Hotel New Darshan is the accommodation provided by Kulturstudier. This semester, all students are staying here. Most of us share a room with one other student, however, it is possible to pay an additional 7000 NOK to be placed in a single room.

It is also possible to request a specific roommate if you want to share a room with your friend or partner. Most of us came here without knowing anyone, and it has been fun and easy to make friends, so don’t worry! The landlord owns three dogs that live at the hotel. They are friendly and have followed the vaccine program 🙂

Here are some key facts:

  1. There is one shared bathroom per room. Some rooms have showers, while others have bathtubs.
  2. Rooms are cleaned twice weekly: one light clean and one deep clean.
  3. Outside of the main hotel building there is a smaller building which includes three parts: a reception, dining room, and kitchen. Some students make breakfast here in the morning.
  4. Hotel New Darshan is four stories tall. At the top, there is a rooftop where some students wash and hang their laundry. This space is also used for social activities such as quiz nights and parties.
  5. There are five rooms per hallway. At the end of each hallway there is a mutual balcony. This can be a nice social place to sit and chat with fellow students in the evenings.

In less than a ten-minute walk from New Darshan, you’ll arrive at your classroom.

The classroom is located at Heritage Hotel a beautiful, traditional space. Staff will greet you with “namaste” whenever entering!

Most days lectures run from 9.00 am to 12.45 pm. Occasionally there will be seminars in the afternoon, but most commonly there will be reading and study time which is free to your own disposal. During the small breaks in between lectures or seminars held at Heritage, there is time to stretch your legs, get some tea or coffee, and some Oreos 🙂

One of the highlights of having Heritage Hotel as our school location, is that there is a pool right outside the classroom which is free to use! Jumping in the pool on warm days is a great way to cool off and the area around the pool is a nice study spot.

I hope this post may have cleared up some questions you might have had.

Best,

Julia
